Working as a team is an important aspect of learning in Japanese education. And an essential element for that is to have roles. Here you will find professional development activities focused on using roles to build classroom rapport. These are fun and light ways to practice grammar and vocabulary among other target languages.
Reading Bible

Running Dictations

A dictation activity where participants are given roles to try and piece together a paragraph. There is a total of three paragraphs provided. The paragraphs are related to literature I have pieced together for my capstone.

Hot Seat: Japanese 

(Casual)

A Hot Seat activity for participants who have some knowledge of Japanese words and phrases. In this activity, you will find ways to give participants vocabulary treatment before engaging in the activity.

Cityscape

Build-A-Tower

You are the mayor of a city, and your participants are architects. Participants will be placed in groups to work together to build a model tower and present their idea to you. Participants are allowed to be creative. However, there are certain criteria to be met for a friendly competition.

Hot Seat: in Japanese (Intermediate & Advance)

An interactive and fast-paced activity to recall or review vocabulary. In this version of Hot Seat, participants will get to challenge themselves and experience the game with Japanese words and phrases.

Collaborative Haiku

Together, participants in groups will create haikus (one of the traditional styles of poetry-writing in Japan) by adding onto original lines to other groups. For this particular activity, participants will see how they can incorporate grammar/vocabulary into something fun!

Activity Time: 35+ minutes
