OPTIMIZING SPEAKING

Asking open questions to a class and hoping for students to respond can often result in silence. This might be due to a variety of cultural reasons. One reasons could be that students are afraid of losing face. Another reason could be that students are accustomed to not being asked questions. It could also be both! Here, you will find some techniques that you can use in your professional development workshop to gather ideas on how to maximize speaking in culturally responsive ways in the EFL classroom.
